Surgery of small animals has and is progressing at an accelerated pace. Therefore, it is essential to consider the following properties of the surgical unit to which you want to send your pet: - The surgical team should follow intense, updated and repetitive training courses.
- The skill and experience of the surgeon should always be taken into account: the more like interventions done, the greater the probability that the intervention will be successful. (If you yourself as a patient need surgery always look for a surgical team that have done the surgery over and over again!)
- The surgical dependencies should include all the latest and safest equipment especially in anaesthesia and patient monitoring (ideally the team should include an anaesthesiologist)
- Finally, the unit should be equipped with efficient post-surgical facilities and equipment (intensive care conditions).
- Operating Microscope: Most recent addition to our surgical unit is an operating microscope which will allow us to:
- Anastomose (join) successively smaller blood vessels and nerves – particularly useful in tissue and organ transplants.
- Opthalmological surgery (cataract) and neurosurgery.
- Facoemulsifier: Facilitates complete and uncomplicated ultrasonic fragmentation, irrigation and extraction of mature cataracts.
At Althaía Veterinary Hospital we offer all this. Come and see for yourself
