We consider preventive medicine a very important part of our practice since it helps avoid and/or control many diseases.
Some examples: 1. Vaccination of puppies, kittens and young exotic animals to prevent certain diseases produced by viruses like distemper, hepatitis, parvovirosis, feline leukemia, etc. 2. Annual vaccination of adult animals. 3. Prophylactic programs for intestinal parasites. 4. Prophylaxis of external parasites. 5. Hair and skin hygiene. 6. Regular teeth cleaning to prevent oral infections, loss of teeth, endocarditis, etc. 7. Behaviour problems. 8. Blood tests for early diagnosis of endemic vectorial diseases in our area like leishmaniasis, ehrlichiosis, rickettsiosis, etc. 9. Frequent urine tests to measure renal function, urine crystalluria, etc. 10. Fecal tests to diagnose not so frequent intestinal parasitism like coccidiosis, giardiasis, etc. 11. Echography especially in the senior pets for early detection of geriatric related pathology. 12. Blood pressure control for early diagnosis of cardiovascular, urinary, metabolic and eye diseases. 13. Geriatric program. A series of tests and examination to help ensure a good quality of life for the elderly pet.
