Canine ehrlichiosis is a disease produced by a blood parasite and transmitted by ticks.
The clinical picture is varied depending on the stage of the disease (acute, sub-acute and chronic). On many occasions the clinical signs are disguised.
In the blood test anemia and trombocitopenia (platelet numbers are low) are usually found. This explains that spontaneous hemorrhages can occur. There is a specific test to diagnose this disease (indirect immunofluorescence).
Prevention of the disease is very important through the control of ticks on the animal.
